General information
Deloitte’s new UK and North West Europe headquarters at 1 New Street Square, EC4, is the largest office in the world to achieve leading certifications for being both an exemplar green building and one designed to enhance the wellbeing of its people.
The new 270,000 sq ft HQ, which Deloitte occupied in July 2018, is the culmination of a four year programme redefining the workplace of the future for the firm’s people and clients.

The flagship office has achieved the highest score for sustainability of any global commercial building fit-out. Using BREEAM, the leading green-building certification, Deloitte’s office scored a record 94%, far exceeding the ‘Outstanding’ threshold and in doing so, becoming the highest scoring BREEAM 2014 Refurbishment & Fit-out project in the world.

The firm also attained WELL Certified™ Gold - a prestigious distinction awarded by the International WELL Building Institute™ to workplaces that enhance people’s health and wellbeing. In securing this rating, 1 New Street Square is now the largest WELL Certified™ Gold for ‘New and Existing Interiors project’ in the world. The office earned the distinction based on seven categories of building and operational performance including air, water, light, nourishment, fitness, comfort and mind.

Mitie Landscapes were asked to provide an interior planting scheme that makes a very significant contribution to helping the building achieve both these accreditations.

The planting varies throughout the building with both simple and specialised displays. Over 700 plant displays throughout 15 floors, including 285 cabinet top displays, some beautiful fibrestone planters, feature trees, living screens and landscaped beds in reception. There's even a cactus garden built into the top of a desk.

There were 6357 individual plants installed over a four-week programme by a small team of interior planting specialists

Mitie Landscapes are very proud indeed of this project. It’s the largest single site job we have ever undertaken. It’s in a central London location where access and parking is always a challenge. The whole project was completed over a four-week program following the fit-out works on each floor. It was completed on schedule without a hitch.

We believe the mix of simple foliage planting and special feature displays works well to enhance the working environment for the staff and visitors.

9. Deloitte. A ROOM WITH A VIEW

It has been great to be involved in such a successful building project that has been recognized with a BREEAM outstanding award.

Judge's Comment
A truly enormous scheme with a wide variety of different plants, well chosen for their situations and all in exceptionally well-chosen containers and planters that match or complement the fixtures and fittings.

The entrance lobby is very impressive, as are the green screens that divide the work spaces, with some cleverly used replica plants in situations where there is insufficient light or room for living plants, but they are fairly difficult to spot.

The large artificial olive is very impressive but my favourite piece was the cactus and succulent garden built into the asymmetrical table -this was the most striking and impressive thing I saw this year.
