NPWW 2019 - Measuring the success Part 1

on Thursday, 18 July 2019. Posted in News

This year was the seventh consecutive annual National Plants at Work Week which takes place in the second week of July. Thank you to everyone who participated.

We'd like to share some results with everyone although this year they are a little disappointing.

Connecting with Nature
Our theme this year was about flexible working and connecting with nature. So whether you choose to work at your main place of work, in a coworking space or a cafe, at home or (controversially) outdoors, connecting with nature and acknowledging the biophilia concept.

With this in mind, plants@work ambassador Ian Drummond and his team set up an outdoor working space on a park bench for the photoshoot. This became the focus of our press release and much of what we did and referred to throughout the week.

The release
This year the release was not sent out by PR Newswire so our coverage has been much less than in previous years. We sent it to the daily nationals, the horticultural press, trade sectors: FM and HR press.

YouTube videos
We added a new video this year covering 'connecting with nature'.

Favourite Office Plant 2019
As is tradition, we also announced the winner of the Favourite Office Plant during National Plants at Work Week. This year the judges chose Philodendron xanadu as the winner. With Epiphyllum anguliger and Alocasia macrorrhizos as second and third choices.

Ian Drummond, paw Ambassador, Chanel de Kock, Flower Council Of Holland

A release was sent to the horticultural press and information about the winner appeared on our website and on social media.

During the week, we followed the announcement with a more in-depth look at the two runners-up.

As well as the judges in the picture above (not including Madeleine and Ian), we had five judges who voted by email: Lisa and Jim Wilkison ad team, Pro Landscaper, Jane Perrone, podcaster, Rona Wheeldon of Flowerona, Kathy Fediw of i-Plants and Joe Zazzera of Green Plants for Green Buildings.

NPWW supporting materials for members
There are a number of downloadable documents which members can access on our website to use during the week including:

Postcard crop

  • postcards
  • a press release to use locally
  • a certificate to present to clients (widely used by Urban Planters)
  • A4 poster template
  • leaflets about the 10 key facts
  • plant tags
  • 'How to build your own pop up office' cheat sheet
  • our 'Plants our Perfect Partners' leaflet and a shorter version '10 key facts'

Many of these can be used throughout the year too.

Members were also reminded that they can order our book, published during last year's NPWW, called Plants for Wellbeing for their team or clients.
