Marsh McLennan (MMC) embarked on a major workplace transformation project to bring new life to their two-decade-old headquarters, uniting their four constituent business streams under one cohesive workspace known as Tower Plant. The revitalisation of the two towers, carried out between 2021 and 2022, included the installation of extensive interior planting to enhance employee wellbeing, air quality, and aesthetic appeal.
Mitie Landscapes was engaged to provide ongoing maintenance for both the plants they supplied and those originally installed by other contractors.

A dedicated maintenance team of two technicians is based on-site five days a week, ensuring that the plants across both towers are maintained to the highest standards. To guarantee continuity and quality, the contract manager and supervisor each dedicate at least one full day per week on-site. Their responsibilities include overseeing plant health, coordinating maintenance schedules, and liaising closely with the Facilities Management (FM) team to promptly address any issues or ad-hoc maintenance requests.
Initially, the team faced challenges largely due to the diverse nature of the installations inherited from multiple suppliers and variations in plant health and soil media. Today, the MMC site is considered a benchmark of consistent quality and client satisfaction, demonstrating Mitie Landscapes’ adaptability and professionalism.

The planting scheme features carefully selected species chosen for their visual appeal, resilience, and suitability to the indoor environment. Cabinet planters are predominantly filled with: Dracaenas, Sansevierias and Scindapsus.Specimen Dracaena varieties including Janet Craig, Lemon and Lime, and Marginata
All new installations utilise Vulcaponic, a sustainable substrate known for its superior aeration, water retention, and longevity—helping to reduce maintenance demands while promoting healthy root systems.

Mitie Landscapes has also worked closely with MMC to adhere to specific aesthetic requirements. Plants must remain neatly pruned to prevent overhang onto cabinets or encroachment onto employee workspaces. All hanging leaves are regularly trimmed, ensuring a uniform, clean, and professional appearance throughout the office environment.
Through continuous collaboration with the client and proactive maintenance management, Mitie Landscapes has transformed the MMC Tower Plant interior into a thriving, sustainable, and visually stunning workspace. Their commitment to excellence, adaptability, and client partnership has made them a worthy recipient of the Gold Leaf Award in the Maintenance Category—a recognition of their exceptional standards and long-term dedication to delivering living, breathing interiors that enhance the modern workplace.
