Now to our last Gold Leaf Award winner in the £15 - £30K Design & Installation section. This honour went to Urban Planters at FIFM, Newbridge Square.

Urban Planters

The client approached Urban Planters as they were looking for a company who could provide an environmentally friendly and sustainable project whilst matching their design brief. This was to include a large living wall with automatic irrigation, planters made from recycled products and which can be fully recycled at the end of their natural life as well as using as many plant species as possible which would super charge the air purification we get from plants.

They were also keen to use preserved planting to add to the benefits and any replica was used high level where it would be better suited.

FI-Real Estate were also keen to embrace as many options as they could which would provide support to their BREEAM/Well-Building requirements.

There was also the requirement to liaise with joinery who would provide two seating planters which would contain large feature trees as well as other trades.

Reception Area

To create a planting scheme within a refurbished building which would embrace the ethos of FI including using environmental and sustainable products which would add and enhance their BREEAM/Well-Building requirements. The client wanted to enhance the space to create a green interior with a connection to the outdoor space using an abundance of planting and air purifying species to aid the well-being of those using the building.

Business Lounge

The client also wanted to use preserved planting in the main reception, this was in keeping with creating a soft green space.

FI also prefer to use local companies and Urban has an office close by so all staff were local to this site.

Reception

Urban were to:

- Focus on sustainability, through the use of eco-friendly and sustainable materials when supplying planters and living walls. Planters for the project were specifically chosen for their sustainability. The Mobilane living wall stimulates biodiversity while purifying air and regulating heat.
- Enhance space through biophilic design, using preserved planting and air-purifying plants to boost wellbeing and productivity.

Liasing with Loop Interiors was a great help as their efficiency and support created an easy working relationship.

Forest Joinery who produced the seating planter were also a great help and easy to deal with in terms of designing the internal planter section, they understood the brief and produced full drawings to the specification required.
