Continuing our review of the best projects entered in our Awards: in 2019 this accolade went to Mitie Landscapes for their installation at Deloitte, One New Street Square.

20 years lrDeloitte’s new 270,000 sq ft UK and North West Europe headquarters in London is the largest office in the world to achieve leading certifications for being both an exemplar green building and one designed to enhance the wellbeing of its people. The flagship office has achieved the highest BREEAM score for sustainability of any global commercial building fit-out. Mitie Landscapes were asked to provide an interior planting scheme that makes a very significant contribution to helping the building achieve both these accreditations. The planting varies throughout the building with both simple and specialised displays.

There are over 700 plant displays throughout 15 floors, including 285 cabinet top displays, some beautiful fibrestone planters, feature trees, living screens and landscaped beds in reception. There’s even a cactus garden built into the top of a desk. There were 6,357 individual plants installed over a four-week programme by a small team of interior planting specialists.

Special mention by judge Greg Redwood, Head of Glasshouses at Kew

“A truly enormous scheme with a wide variety of different plants, well chosen for their situations and all in exceptionally well-chosen containers and planters that match or complement the fixtures and fittings. The entrance lobby is very impressive, as are the green screens that divide the work spaces with some cleverly used replica plants in situations where there is insufficient light or room for living plants, but they are fairly difficult to spot. The large artificial olive is very impressive but my favourite piece was the cactus and succulent garden built into the asymmetrical table – this was the most striking and impressive thing I saw this year” Greg Redwood
