Celebrate National plants@work Week: 7–11 July
National plants@work Week returns from 7–11 July, and we’re inviting everyone to take part in this celebration of the power of plants in our indoor spaces.

Organised annually by plants@work, this special week has been running since 2012, shining a spotlight on the vital role houseplants and interior landscaping play in supporting our health, productivity, and overall wellbeing, particularly in the places we work, learn, and gather.
Whether you're an interior landscaper, a plant-loving business, a designer, or simply someone who appreciates the benefits of greenery, this is your chance to get involved, raise awareness, and share your passion for plants.
The benefits of interior plants go far beyond aesthetics. A growing body of research highlights how greenery can support physical and mental well-being in built environments:
Reduces stress and supports mental health
A study by Lohr et al. (1996) found that the presence of plants in office environments significantly lowered stress levels in workers, especially in windowless spaces. Plants provide a sense of calm and comfort that helps reduce anxiety and mental fatigue. (Lohr et al., 1996 – Journal of Environmental Horticulture)
Boosts focus, creativity, and productivity
Research by Nieuwenhuis et al. (2014) showed that offices with plants led to a 15% increase in productivity. Simply adding greenery helped people stay focused and engaged with their tasks. (Nieuwenhuis et al., 2014 – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied)
Enhances mood and job satisfaction
A study by Lee et al. (2015) demonstrated that interacting with plants can reduce physiological stress and improve mood, showing measurable drops in blood pressure and anxiety during short activities such as repotting.
(Lee et al., 2015 – Journal of Physiological Anthropology)
Promotes connection to nature in urban life
White et al. (2019) found that spending time with natural elements, even indoors, is linked to higher life satisfaction and lower psychological distress. Plants help bridge the gap between modern urban living and our innate need for nature. (White et al., 2019 – Science Advances)
These studies reinforce what many of us experience every day — plants make people feel better and perform better. When we bring nature into our interiors, we’re not just decorating — we’re supporting healthier, happier, more productive environments.
National plants@work Week is all about celebrating those benefits, sharing stories, and showcasing beautiful indoor planting in offices, hospitality venues, homes, and public spaces.
